Hiking the Echo Rock Trail at Mirror Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wisconsin

A lovely spring day beckoned me to explore the trails of Mirror Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wisconsin. I have passed this particular preserve countless times over the years when visiting family but have not managed to find the time to stop and explore. I made it a goal on my last trip and finally wandered through the site's enchanting woodlands.

Calm Mirror Lake adds sparkling serenity between rocky, tree-covered cliffs. Mirror Lake is so calm that it often does not have a ripple. While Mirror Lake may be the centerpiece of the preserve, many more natural treasures captivate during adventures to the state park.

During my visit, I chose to hike the Echo Rock Trail and the Ishnala Trail. I enjoyed a peaceful amble under the dancing green forest canopy. The hike was just the break I needed on my car ride home from visiting my grandmother. Nearly 20 miles of trails traverse Mirror Lake State Park offering hikers countless unique adventures.

Before hiking on a natural trail to Echo Rock, I soaked in a view of Mirror Lake. Then, I embarked on the natural trail down to Echo Rock. Echo Rock stands as an intriguing weather-etched sandstone formation. While exploring, I hike around the formation and headed to the top for more appreciation. I loved studying the soft, weather-worn edges of Echo Rock.

Tip: Mirror Lake State Park is a fantastic Wisconsin Dells hiking location.

After admiring Echo Rock's folds, cracks, and crevices as well as the tall pines sporting bristly yet soft fronds rising above, I began hiking towards the Ishnala Trail. Along the Ishnala Trail, I discovered a picturesque bridge crossing Mirror Lake. Nice spots for photos dot the bridge. The bridge leads to the famed Ishnala Supper Club which opened in the 1950s. An adventure for another trip!

My brief hikes only scratched the surface at Mirror Lake State Park. With nearly 20 miles of trails to explore and scenery changing with the seasons, I do need to plan a return trip or two. Or maybe three.

Note: Please remember that you will need a vehicle admission sticker or purchase a day pass.
