As a mom on the go, I am always looking for fun and affordable things to do in the 'burbs. This list is not meant to be a comprehensive list. However, it is a way for us to share with you interesting, fun, and affordable activities that we have found in the area. These are events that we have either been to in the past or we would take our kiddos to:

  • June 20-22 Historic Planes of D-Day Flying, St. Charles, see large scale model planes fly missions, $5 pp, kids 12&Under free, see website for more info and times
  • June 21-23 Strawberry Fest, Long Grove, vendors, live music, kids area and more, $5 per person; kids ages 12 and under are free. See website for more info.
  • June 29 Glenview SummerFest, Glenview Public Library, 9AM-3PM, local vendors, crafts, music, balloons and more, free admission
  • June 22-23 Sweden Vast, part of Geneva's Swedish Days, 10AM-5PM Sat, 10AM-3PM Sun, Swedish tastes, sounds and sites, Viking reenactors, Maypole and more
  • June 22-23 Festival of the Fine Arts, Highland Park, 10AM-5PM
  • June 22-23 Artisan Fest, Evanston
  • June 21-23 Greek Fest Palatine, St. Nectarios, Greek foods, dancing, music and more, kids activities
  • June 22 Pioneer Day, The Grove, Glenview, 10AM-4PM, hands-on activities and interpreters to help you learn about pioneer life, free admission
  • June 22 Free Trail Walks at Fuller Air Station, Glenview, 11AM
  • June 22-23 Spring Valley Country Fair, Volkening Heritage Farm, 12PM-4PM, recreated 19th century country fair, free admission
  • June 22 Space Launch Party, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 1PM-3PM, launch of Earth from Space summer exhibit, family activities, hand built planetarium, crafts and more, free
  • June 22 Midsommar Celebration, North Shore Distillery, Green Oaks, 6PM-10PM, Maypole and other activities, shots of aquavit for those over 21
  • June 23 Monarchs and Milkweed, Leroy Oakes Forest Preserve, St. Charles, 12PM-3PM, guided hikes, milkweed plant giveaway, butterfly house kits, live music, food trucks, vendors and more, free admission
  • June 23 Life Under A Log, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, let's look for surprise that live under and in a rotting log, free
  • June 23 Bettendorf Castle, Fox River Grove, 2PM tour, $25, reserve tickets online
