Chicago Suburbs Family Events

As a mom on the go, I am always looking for fun and affordable things to do in the 'burbs. This list is not meant to be a comprehensive list. However, it is a way for us to share with you interesting, fun, and affordable activities that we have found in the area. These are events that we have either been to in the past or we would take our kiddos to:
  • March 23 - June 2 Simply Spring: The Butterfly Exhibit at Nicholas Conservatory, Rockford, go early as space is limited, adults $6 (Resident), $8 (Non-Resident), senior $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident), Veterans $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident), ages 5-17 $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident). ages 3-4 $2 (Resident), $3 (Non-Resident), ages 2 and under free ($4 admission on Tropical Tuesdays), enjoy butterflies flying around in a tropical setting without leaving the Midwest!
  • April 20 Easter Egg Hunt, Hoffman Estates, at 3 times at 3 different parks, 8:15AM, 9:30AM, 10:45AM, free, bring a basket
  • April 20 Easter Bunny Photos, Egg Hunt and Doggie Eggstravaganza, Elmurst, Wilder Park, Egg Hunt at 10AM sharp, 9AM-12PM, Doggie Eggstravaganza 10:30AM, free
  • April 20 Earth Day, Tyne Center, Glenview, 10AM-2PM, nature walks, exhibits, activities and more, free
  • April 20 Easter Eggstravaganza, Prairie Lakes, Des Plaines, 10AM-12PM, decorate baskets and fill them with goodies, free, egg hunt for little ones but MUST register, pancake breakfast 9AM-11AM $8 but do not need to register
  • April 20 Bunny Bash, Rylko Park, Buffalo Grove, 10AM-11:30AM, face painting, games, pictures with the bunny, EGGscellent, bring your baskets and more, free
  • April 20 Earth Day Nature Play, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 12PM-3PM, special family fun nature activities for Earth Day, free
  • April 20 Easter Bunny at Jelly Belly, Pleasant Prairie, WI, 1PM-3PM, Easter bunny photos ($20), balloon artist, face painting and more, special tours 9AM-12PM
  • April 20 Viking Ship Tours, Geneva, 1PM-4PM, tour the Viking Ship that was a gift for the World's Columbian Exhibition in Chicago, $5 per adult, $3 for teens, children are free
  • April 20 Horsin' Around Day Spring Fling Easter Egg Hunt, Danada Equestrian Center, Wheaton, 12PM-4PM, family activities, meet the horses of Danada, egg hunt at 1PM and 2:30PM, tractor hayrides at 3PM ($5 pp, under 5 ride free), free
  • April 21 Pioneer Living, Sandridge Nature Center, South Holland, 10AM-3PM, learn about pioneers by exploring recreated log cabins, free
  • April 21 Spring Has Sprung Family Drop In, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 11AM-2PM, stop in and explore nature, free
  • April 27  Earth Day, Naperville
  • April 27 Nature & Arts Festive, Lake Katherine
  • April 28 Arbor Day Block Party, Morton Arboretum
  • May 11 Pet Parade and Party, Algonquin -- Riverbottom sponsor
