A Little Time and a Keyboard: A Fudge for the Holidays

A Fudge for the Holidays

Saturday, December 24, 2011

Every Christmas, I like to try a new recipe--usually something to indulge my sweet tooth.  I have never made a fudge before, so I thought that I would give it a try this year.  I discovered a recipe from Giada for a Cinnamon-Chocolate Fudge.  Cinnamon always reminds me of the holidays, so this recipe seemed to be ideal for this time of year.

The recipe only calls for six ingredients:  sweet condensed milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract,  bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, unsalted butter, and Kosher salt.  The recipe details the amount of chocolate to be used depending on whether you prefer bittersweet or semisweet.   Also, the use of Kosher salt is optional.

I used semisweet chocolate and Kosher salt in my fudge.  I did grind my salt a little bit so that I wouldn't be putting huge pieces on the fudge.  The result was delicious and definitely more interesting than your normal fudge.  I loved the addition of the cinnamon.  It gave another level to the flavor of the chocolate.  I also liked the way that the salt contrasted with the sweetness of the fudge.  One of the reviewers of the recipe discussed adding cayenne pepper to the fudge.  I wish that I had read the review before making the recipe---I think that a little cayenne peper would go really well with the fudge.

This recipe is definitely a keeper.  If you are looking for an easy, additional recipe for this holiday season, give this fudge a try!
