A Little Time and a Keyboard: Jiminee's Doll Clothes: A Doll's Shopping Paradise

Jiminee's Doll Clothes: A Doll's Shopping Paradise

Friday, December 30, 2011

Like many of her contemporaries, my daughter is in the throes of an American Girl love affair.  Every time an American Girl catalog arrives, she studies each page and carefully chooses the items she would like.  Some of our catalogs actually get quite worn as she has leafed through them dozens of times!  Then, my daughter cautiously saves up her allowance to buy her favorite items.

Recently, I learned about a small local operation, Jiminee's Doll Clothes, that makes doll clothes that fit American Girl Dolls.  Since I am always looking for a deal and would much rather give my money to a small company rather than a mega corporation, I thought that I should check it out.  With my daughter on break, I decided it was the perfect time for a girls' shopping trip.

The store is a bit of a drive from our house and, after a wrong turn, I was glad when I finally found it tucked away in a hidden shopping center on Irving Park Road in Roselle.  Upon entering the store, my daughter and I immediately realized that the trip was well worth it.  The store is small but all of the clothing is set up in a cheerful, well-organized manner.  Most of the clothing is at my daughter's level which meant a lot of fun for her!  Shopping was enjoyable---not the rat race that you often encounter at the American Girl Store.  The staff was pleasant and genuinely excited to see a little girl perusing their wares.

All of the clothing seems to be really well made and priced reasonably.  There was a "Sparkle" collection made up of shiny dresses, jackets, and pants.  There were fancy dresses, blue jeans, skirts, frilly tops, plain tops, robes, pajamas, and bathing suits galore.  I found the jackets, capes, and dresses to be exceptionally gorgeous.  I was also impressed by the selection of accessories available.  Our doll had fun modeling all types of shoes, umbrellas, glasses, headbands, scarves, hats, and barrettes.
Of course, no shopping trip would be complete without a few treasures.  My daughter picked out a fancy dress, a robe, a tank top, an umbrella and a headband for her doll.  Since there was a promotion going on, we received all of these items for $36.

Jiminee's also sells clothing online for both 18' and 15' dolls.    One look at their site and you will see that they have some really nice items.   I wish I would have found this store earlier!  My daughter and I are already looking forward to our next trip--I am thinking birthday, maybe?
