A Little Time and a Keyboard: St. Julian Winery--Tasting Fun for Mom, Dad, and the Kids!

St. Julian Winery--Tasting Fun for Mom, Dad, and the Kids!

Whenever we go to Michigan, we love to hit some of the spots on the wine trail.  Michigan produces a surprisingly large range of wines with many gems waiting for you to discover.  One of our favorite Michigan wineries--and a must stop for our family--is the St. Julian Winery.

The St. Julian Winery provides a pleasant tasting experience for all.  While there are several tasting rooms throughout southern Michigan, we usually end up at the Union Pier location.  The Union Pier tasting room has a warm, inviting appearance.  The products are well spread out so there is no crowding.  The decor is a bit crafty and homespun, which I like.  This makes for an atmosphere that is welcoming to everyone as opposed to wineries that are more refined.

Those interested in a tasting are welcomed to the tasting bar.  This is where St. Julian really shines--there are different types of tasting, thus pleasing everyone.  They have two levels of tasting--a free tasting where you get to taste 6 St. Julian wines and a $5 premium tasting where you get to taste from the reserve collection and spirits.   (St. Julian makes a brandy and a vodka!)  Now, here is the part that really makes us happy--they have a juice tasting for the kids!   I love that this winery provides this option because we can bring our daughter and she can have fun too!  She loves to choose sparkling juice to taste and give her own critique.  While we do like to have wine adventures on our own, it is nice to be able to include our daughter from time to time.

We have found some items that we really enjoy from St. Julian's.  My husband and I must buy a bottle of their Solera Cream Sherry every time we visit.  It is dangerously great!  I also like the Raspberry Spumante and Cherry Wine.   My daughter raves about their sparking juice.  She has come home with the Cherry, Pomegranate Blueberry, and  Passion Fruit Peach on different occasions.

For tasting room locations and times, check St. Julian's website.
