Illumination display around the lake at Morton Arboretum.

If you haven't been out to Illumination at Morton Arboretum yet, you really need to get out there! There is no better excuse for getting some fresh air on winter evening than to check out Illumination.

We were able to get a little sneak peek of Illumination a couple of weeks ago. The event is back for the second year with last year seeing a whopping 88,000 visitors. With several weekend evenings sold out during the first few weeks of the event, it is on pace to see even more this year! Boasting more than 390 LED and Arc lighting features among more than 1,000 trees and 20 miles of cable to connect features, Illumination is quite the show! I was able to take a few videos snippets of one of the displays for you:

If you visited Illumination last year, you will be happy to know that this year's show has expanded to include more of the Arboretum. Parents, rest assured--there is an easy break point between both wings of the extravaganza so you can take a break. Plus, a warming tent and fire pits will keep you warm and you can even make a s'more or two! You can also head over to the Visitor's Center for a warm up between sections.

The interactive nature of the exhibit will keep children entertained. Breathtaking light shows in the trees set to music, trees lighting up in response to singing, trees waiting to be hugged, chandeliers waving in the wind and more will delight and engage the whole family! Plus, there is a new scavenger hunt to find the "Glow Man" and interactive stations for all ages. Fun, fun, FUN!

Illumination enlivens the Arboretum during the winter and encourages us all to connect with nature during a time that we normally stay inside. Each portion of the exhibit tells a story and highlights nature in a visually stunning way. Truly a reason to get out this winter!
