Red Gold's Summer Grillin' Party and Bison Chili {Giveaway 7/13/15}

Red Gold is one of our favorite food companies! Red Gold has been a family owned company since the 1940's and has been operating for four generations. Plus, their tomatoes are grown here in the Midwest on family farms in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan! In fact, Red Gold has partnerships with over 50 Midwestern growers. Red Gold also takes its stewardship of the land very seriously. The company is attempting to achieve zero-landfill status by 2017. They also encourage growers to incorporate filter strips into their fields that not only protect waterways and prevent erosion but encourage a native wildlife habit to grow. One of the plants that grow in these strips is milkweed--the plant that monarchs are dependent upon. Such a wonderful Midwest brand!

This summer, Red Gold is once again hosting its Summer Grillin' Party which means that Red Gold is sharing grilling recipes and giving away four Big Green Eggs (one for each week of the promotion)! The promotion runs now through July 22, 2015 and you can enter through Red Gold's Facebook page. Who can't use a Big Green Egg?

To celebrate the event, Red Gold has supplied us with a grilling kit of our own to try out. PLUS, we can give away one similar kit to a lucky reader!  Our kit contained an insulated tote--perfect for keeping things cool during the summer--a selection of Red Gold tomato products including diced tomatoes and diced tomatoes with chilis and a coupon from Red Gold's partner, Laura's Lean Beef. Additionally, we received some new grilling recipes. However, we did have a hankering for bison chili so we opted to use our Red Gold Tomatoes to whip up a fine chili! With all of the rainy days in the Chicago area this summer, it was nice to warm up to a bowl of chili!

My husband's favorite bison chili recipe actually incorporates Guinness into the chili. Who can argue with that? We used two cans of diced Red Gold Tomatoes for this recipe and my husband made his own puree for the puree portion. The recipe also calls for black beans in addition to kidney beans. As you can see it is pretty hearty!  The recipe yielded enough chili to spread over a couple of meals. I topped mine with avocado. The quality of the Red Gold Tomatoes definitely came through in the chili. Super yum! You can find the recipe over at the Daily Meal.
