One of the things I love about this season is that you can continue the magic of Christmas through New Year's. Many holiday delights don't end immediately on Christmas Day but continue through the week. Of course, this is ideal for families looking for fun ways to capitalize on extra days off during the holiday season. The Chicago Botanic Garden has long been a holiday favorite with it's magical Wonderland Express winding trains through a mini cache of notable Chicago structures and an indoor dusting of snow. However, a walk around the Chicago Botanic Gardens this time of year is worth it even if you skip the Wonderland Express. Last weekend, we took advantage of the warm weather to walk around and I have to say the lights are captivating!

The greenhouses at the garden are a real treasure--quite a warm weather haven in the middle of winter. Some lights and poinsettias are threaded throughout. The tropical, semi-tropical and arid greenhouses are the perfect escape from the often desolate winter months. While it was not snowing during this particular visit, I do enjoy standing in the warm weather environs while seeing some snow through the windows!

Of course, a visit to the Chicago Botanic Garden Wonderland Express is magical--an adventure that I recommend everyone embark on at least once. The details are quite amazing and snow falling while enjoying the scenes creates a whimsical childhood memory. A delightful way to spend a Winter Break day! The exhibit is open until January 3, so this is the week to visit! Ticket prices are (Tuesdays are half price):

Adults: members/nonmembers: $10/$12
Seniors 62+: members/nonmembers: $8/$10
Children 3 to 12: members/nonmembers $8/$10
Children 2 and under are free.
Tuesdays are half-price.

You can purchase tickets and parking online.

But, a trip to the Chicago Botanic Garden without visiting the Wonderland Express is still worth it to enjoy the lights and soak up the warm weather environs within the greenhouses! A little breath of fresh air does wonders for your health and spirit! Plus, you can pick up tea, coffee or hot cocoa at the cafe to keep you warm while exploring!

~Parking is $25 per car, $20 if you purchase online. Admission is free.
