Choo! Choo! A couple of train events this weekend, tons of holiday fun, Circus Yoga and more! Here are my picks for family fun this weekend in the Chicago suburbs:

Ongoing:
  • November 30-January 8 Christmas on the Farm and Life by Lamplight Farm House Tours, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, Thursdays-Mondays, see times. The farm house will be decorated for the holidays and full of aromas of holiday treats baked in a wood stove. Learn the origins of holiday traditions and more. Free.
  • Ongoing: Illumination at Morton Arboretum in Lisle; November 17-January 1; a light show in the trees, interactive displays and more, check website for more description on prices and times, purchase tickets in advance
  • Ongoing: Dickens Holiday Village and Kringle's Christmas Village Tour in Antioch November 4-December 25; over 50 handcrafted Dickens character will be featured around town, free walking tour available, special events select Saturdays, Kringle's Christmas Village shadowboxes also decorate the town
  • Ongoing: Festival of Lights Cosley Zoo Wheaton; November 24-December 31 3PM-9PM, 20,000 twinkling lights transform the zoo with displays; Christmas tree sale as well; free; closed Christmas Eve and Christmas; check website for specific times (closed days), free but donations appreciated

  • December 9 Swapadventure 5th Annual Holiday Donation Event, Belvedere Events & Banquets, Elk Grove, 11AM-2PM, bring 1 clothing item, book or toy to donate, Santa pictures, activities and more
  • December 9 & 10 Victorian Holiday Celebration, Midway Village, Rockford, 11AM-4PM. Enjoy immigrant holiday traditions, horse drawn carriage rides, Victorian decorations, crafts, Christmas carols and more. Admission is $7 per adult, $5 per child. Different family packages available. Kids ages 2 and under are free.
  • December 9 Merry & Bright: A Victorian Christmas, Blodgett House, Downer's Grove, 1PM-5PM, Learn Victorian Christmas traditions. Enjoy Victorian decorations and carols, a campfire, Santa and reindeer and more. Treats available for purchase. Free admission.
  • December 9-10 Ansel B Cook House Victorian Christmas, Libertyville, 12PM-4PM Sat, 1PM-3PM Sun, $2 per adult, $1 per child
  • December 9 Circus Yoga:The Human Art of Play, JAI Yoga Studio, Palatine, 2PM-4PM,  Enjoy a healthy dose of fun and exercise while juggling, hula hooping, clowning around and trying new things like flying partner yoga, group acrobatics, mandala yoga and more!, must pre-register $20 per person, $15 per person for families of 3 or more. 
  • December 9-16 Incredible Light Show, Randhurst Village, Mt. Prospect, starts December 9-16, free, animated projection light show, runs every half hour 6PM-8PM,  see website for more special events
  • December 9 Celebrate the Holidays Dance and Music Recital, Cutting Hall, Palatine, 7PM, This performance will feature several dance styles such as tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, lyrical, hip hop, and jazz funk. In addition to dance, there will be several music performances. Tickets are $15.
Sunday, December 10:
  • December 10  Great Midwest Train Show, DuPage County Fairgrounds, 9AM-3PM, exhibitors, model railroads to view, trains for kids to run, $7/adult, kids under 12 are free
  • December 10 GPS Scavenger Hunt, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 12PM-2PM, limited GPS units available or bring your own, use GPS to find treasures in the forest, free
