Cinco deMayo, Lilacs, Luminaries, Horses, Art Festival, Kids Fest and more Chicago Suburban Weekend Fun!

The weekend is ALMOST here! We have plenty of fun in the Chicago suburbs to look forward to including a night of luminaries, spring fest, kids fest, lilacs, food trucks and more! Take a peek at my picks -- be sure to check on weather/flooding before going out:
Ongoing:
  • March 23 - June 2 Simply Spring: The Butterfly Exhibit at Nicholas Conservatory, Rockford, go early as space is limited, adults $6 (Resident), $8 (Non-Resident), senior $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident), Veterans $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident), ages 5-17 $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident). ages 3-4 $2 (Resident), $3 (Non-Resident), ages 2 and under free ($4 admission on Tropical Tuesdays), enjoy butterflies flying around in a tropical setting without leaving the Midwest!
  • May 1-19 Lilac Time, Lombard, parades, heritage walks, wine tastings, beer tastings, concerts, kids day, botanical tour and more, see website
Friday, May 3:
  • May 3-5 Open House to Make Glass Pendants, Patterson Glassworks, Mundelein, 10AM-4PM, $35 each, first come, first serve
  • May 3 Food Truck Festival, Downtown Aurora, 5PM-10PM, also art crawl until 11PM
  • May 3-5 Cinco De Mayo Festival, Lake County Fairgrounds, Grayslake, mariachi bands, folkloric dancers and more, see website for more info and admission
  • May 3 & 4 Night Lights, Chicago Botanic Garden, evening -- times vary, Adults: $8/$10
    Seniors 62+: $5/$7 Children 3-12: $5/$7 Children 2 and under are free. More than 3000 luminaries will light the gardens in strategic patterns, must reserve timed tickets, regular parking fees apply as well ($30 per car)
Saturday, May 4:
  • May 4-5 Ice Skating Shows, Glenview Ice Center, $5, see times and purchase tickets online

  • May 4-5 Art in the Park, Wilder Park, Elmhurst, also free admission at Lizzadro Museum during open hours, activities, midwest artists and more
  • May 4-5 Sheep Shearing, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-4PM, watch farmhands sheer shear sheep, see a border collie demo, learn how washed wool is dyed and spun, see quilting and more, free
  • May 4 Big Trucks, Aquatic Center, Palatine, 10AM-1PM
  • May 4 Family Health Fair, Community Rec Center, Wheeling, 10AM-1PM, learn about health services in the area, demos, crafts, entertainment and more, free
  • May 4-5 Victorian Village Opening Weekend, Midway Village, Rockford, free admission Saturday, regular admission Sunday plus fee for tea party, 11AM-4PM
  • May 4 Kids Fest, Citizens Park, Barrington, 11AM-3PM, kite fly, climb a tree, build a bird house, activity stations, obstacle course and more, free but you will register when you arrive

  • May 5 Spring Festival, Trailside, River Forest, 11AM-3PM, fun day of activities for all ages including a tree climb, guided wildflower walks, seed planting, animal encounters and more, free
  • May 5 Spring Into Action Stream Clean Up, Winfield Creek, Wheaton, 1PM-3PM, family-friendly cleanup service project with Cosley Zoo
  • May 5 Birds of Prey Series, River Trail Nature Center, 1:30PM, learn about birds of prey and their adaptation, live birds of prey will visit, free
