Visiting Lake Superior has long been on my travel list. When a free weekend presented itself, my husband and I seized the opportunity to head to Duluth, Minnesota for a weekend away. We quickly fell in love with Duluth's position on the serene, nearly thawed, magnificent Lake Superior:

Magical Nature Experiences:

I am excited to share our Duluth discoveries with you! During my series on Duluth, follow us as we hike to spectacular views of Gooseberry Falls a short drive from the city and pause along rapids leading to the falls.

We also trekked up and down for a variety of views at Congdon Park. This park is a bit tucked away but worth a visit. Just wow!


Take a trip up Enger Tower for an unparalleled view of Duluth's harbor and the surrounding golf course and natural area.

A Wealth of History to Explore:

Learn about the history and ecology of Lake Superior and the other Great Lakes as well as maritime history at the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center and the Great Lakes Aquarium. We learned about everything from lake wildlife to shipwrecks.

Stunning Glensheen Mansion

Bask in the grandeur of Glensheen Mansion home of iron baron Chester Congdon constructed in 1905-1906. The craftsmanship, landscape and intriguing intricacies of the the home certainly elicited awe as we surveyed the home.

Wandering through Our Lincoln Park and Canal Park

Saunter through Our Lincoln Park and Canal Park exploring local makers, sampling local eats and craft beer. (Really, who could skip sampling craft beer at one -- or two -- or three locations.)

We spent quite a bit of time strolling in the canal area. We found the views a little slice of heaven helping lift our spirits and get away from it all.

Our getaway was certainly that. We found Duluth to be the perfect escape from our hectic schedules enticing us with the raw beauty of nature, intriguing history, splendid views and a thriving local maker scene.
