Labor Day Festivals, Irish Days, Dinosaurs, Cheese-A-Palooza and More Chicago Suburban Fun August 30-September 2, 2019

We have a LONG weekend ahead and there are plenty of festivals for you to enjoy that last blast of summer. Here are my picks in the Chicago suburbs this weekend:

  • May 18-September 21 Butterfly House, Peck Farm, Geneva, Mon-Sat 9AM-5PM, Sun 12PM-5PM, closed Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day, $2 pp donation, $5 per family
  • May 25-September 2 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM daily, see website for fees, weather dependent
  • May 24-September 15 Nature Connects Lego Sculptures by Sean Kenney at The Morton Arboretum, comes with regular admission, see previous post for more details

  • August 30-September 2 Naperville Jaycees Last Fling, live music, carnival rides, family fun day, Labor Day parade, general admission $10 pp per day, 12 and under free with paying adult, purchase tickets and see more packages on website, separate price for rides, see info about mega pass for carnival

  • August 31-September 2 Irish Days, Long Grove, Irish music, dancers, genealogy information and more, dog competition, food from Harrington's and more, free admission, food for purchase, see schedule on website
  • August 31-September 1 Cheese-A-Palooza, Kenosha, along the harbor between 2nd and 6th Avenue at 54th Street, 11AM-10PM, cheese inspired food vendors, live music, kids zone, cheese eating contests and more, plant to visit earlier on Saturday and explore Kenosha's HarborMarket (9AM-2PM)
  • August 31-September 2 September Fest, Schaumburg
  • August 31 Alley Art Festival, Aurora, 12PM-5PM. along Water Street Mall, grassroots art festival
Sunday, September 1
  • September 1 & 2 Fox Valley Folk Festival, Island Park, Geneva, 11AM-6PM, stories, music and more, $25 pp per day, $15 for seniors and teens, kids 12 and under are free, discount for both days
  • September 1 Lifting Logs, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, see who makes decaying trees their home, wear closed toed, sturdy shoes, 1-1.5 hour walk, free
  • September 1 & 2 Creature Feature, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, learn about one of the preserves resident creatures, free 
Monday, September 2
  • September 2 Museums Open For Labor Day! Cantigny's museums are usually closed Mondays but will be open for this Labor Day, plus there will be an American English concert at 3PM, $10 parking, free admission, Wheaton
