Chicago Suburbs Weekend Family Fun September 27-29, 2019 Including: Oktoberfest, Johnny Appleseed, Grape Stomping Harvest Fests, Farm Tours and More


The weekend will soon be upon us! Fall is a fun time in the suburbs including Oktoberfest, Fall Fests and more! Here are my picks this weekend:
Ongoing:
  • September 7-November 3 Richardson Adventure Farm and the World's Largest Corn Maze
  • September 7- October 27 Shades of Autumn Festival --  For nearly two months each year, Shades of Autumn Festival at Stade's in McHenry features a plethora of fun fall activities including picking pumpkins, a pumpkin cannon, a corn maze, duck races, a hay bale climb, zip lines, slide mountain and much more.
  • September 21-October 27 Pumpkin Daze, Abbey Farms, Aurora, corn maze, zip lines, log beam balance course, corn cannon, combine slide, craft beer tent on weekends, Saturday movie nights, Farmstead Emporium Store and so much more! 
Friday, September 27:
  • September 27-29 Batavia Oktoberfest, German food, music and beer on the river, family day on Sunday September 29
Saturday, September 28:
  • September 28 Deerfield Harvest Fest, special farmers' market with kids activities 8AM-12PM, evening of food, music and fun 5:30PM-9PM
  • September 28-29 Harvest Weekend, Chicago Botanic Garden, Fruit and Vegetable Garden, 11AM-4PM, learn how to grow garlic, learn about beekeeping, demos, see how brooms are made, learn how to harvest and preserve produce, shop local vendors, parking $30 per car
  • September 28-29 Farm Heritage & Harvest Festival, Grayslake County Fairgrounds, 10AM-5PM Sat, 10AM-4PM Sun, barrel train rides, make a rope, sawmill demo, tractor show and much more, free admission
  • September 28 Gentleman's Farm Tour, 10AM-2PM, learn about the role gentleman farms played in DuPage County and visit Danada, St. James and Mayslake, $15 per car, register online
  • September 28-29 Lynfred Oktoberfest and Grape Stomp -- Oktoberfest at Lynfred Winery in Roselle is a festive time featuring grape stomping, grape spitting, German food, great wine, kids activities and lederhosen! 
  • September 28-29 Vernon Hills Fall Fest, Vernon Hills Metra Station, live music, paint-a-pumpkin, craft show and more, see schedule
  • September 28 Free Trail Walk, Fuller Air Station Prairie, Glenview, 11AM, guided

  • September 29 The Hills Are Alive Fall Festival, Barrington Hills Park District Riding Center, 11AM-4PM, live music, living horse museum, kids activities, hayrides and much more
  • September 29 Bees, Wasps and Hornets, Crabtree Nature Center, 1PM, learn about insects that can be pesky this time of year, free
