Tivoli Gardens: No Copenhagen Visit is Complete Without a Visit

Tivoli Gardens: No Copenhagen Visit is Complete Without a Visit

What is a visit to Copenhagen without a visit to Tivoli Gardens? We were fortunate to have a hotel nearby, so were able to make a couple of visits to both the park and its food court. Tivoli Gardens is the second oldest operating amusement park in the world! So we were exploring a part of history!

Honestly, before our trip I didn't really study much about Tivoli Gardens. I figured we would just have fun and explore it with fresh eyes. The gates of Tivoli were originally opened in 1843. So, I wonder how many people marveled in the park just like I was!

I expected rides and gardens but I was surprised by the number of interesting sculptures throughout the park. None other than Hans Christian Andersen marveled at the amusements, gardens and artistry of Tivoli Gardens. In fact, he was inspired to write The Nightengale by Tivoli!

I felt that Tivoli Gardens was not overly large but definitely packed a lot of entertainment into a small space.

As you walk about the park, you will note rides interspersed throughout. The Ferris Wheel is a favorite and gives a splendid view of Copenhagen.

We enjoyed visiting the German Biergarten and ended up ordering dinner there. The portions were excellent plus the restaurant has a nice sit down area for relaxing!

As you can see, we certainly enjoyed generous portions!

International influence is threaded throughout Tivoli including this Taj Mahal inspired building!

We loved the pirate ship as well!

Tivoli also has a food court that has access from the street. We enjoyed burgers and salt and vinegar fries at the food court. Yum!

All in all, Tivoli is a fun little oasis right in the heart of Copenhagen! A slice of history, international flavors, entertainment and more will add some more charm to your Copenhagen trip!

Tips for Tivoli:

  • Get your passes early in the morning so you can come and go throughout the day.
  • Tivoli is a fun spot to spend the evening and even enjoy dinner.
  • You can enjoy the food market without even going inside of Tivoli. Great food option for families that can't agree on a place to eat!
