Wine, Women & Shoes Benefiting A Safe Place Goes Virtual July 10, 2020

Wine, Women & Shoes Benefiting A Safe Place Goes Virtual July 10, 2020

Each year, A Safe Place invites the community to join Wine, Women & Shoes to benefit the survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. This year, A Safe Place has experienced a surge in a need for their services including a more than a 635% increase in emergency hotline calls during the pandemic. Additionally, A Safe Place has had to expand capacity by double through housing survivors in hotels in order to maintain CDC social distance guidelines. Furthermore, A Safe Place is the sole provider of services focusing on domestic violence and sex trafficking in all of Lake County. With the increase in need of these vital services, A Safe Place's benefit comes at a great time to support this cause.  Being able to host this benefit is crucial in terms of continuing vital services and furthering awareness.

What does being able to continue Wine, Women & Shoes this year albeit with virtual format mean to A Safe Place?

In order to comply with the mandated shelter in place, A Safe Place has altered many services but continued to operate in all capacities. While many businesses and organizations were shut down, A Safe Place actually increased services to the many people experiencing emergency situations. We have tripled shelter services and saw our largest increase of emergency calls at an increase of 635%. This increase in services means an increase in need for funding; however, the pandemic also required us to cancel or alter our major annual fundraisers, including our Wine, Women & Shoes event. We anticipate these changes to amount to a loss of at least $300,000. We've also seen a decrease in donations as the community and our supporters continue to balance their financial obligations with losses of jobs, furloughs or temporary lay offs. Going virtual means continuing to not only provide, but increase, essential services for survivors. It means allowing us to generate more awareness to the cause and potentially reaching new people, whether they are a potential supporter or a potential client.

What can virtual guests expect during this virtual event?

Technically our virtual event is already underway! All details can be found on our website: https://asafeplaceforhelp.org/get-involved/wine-women-shoes/ (Details on the event offerings are above.)

During our Virtual Broadcast on July 10, we will celebrate safely from the comfort of our homes, however guests would like to participate. Registrants will receive a Zoom link to join and we will engage guests with contests and prizes while also educating on our cause and community involvement. The event is 45 minutes, but will leave a lifetime of impact on attendees.

A component of the event is being able to shop for fashion finds with part of the proceeds going to A Safe Place. How has that changed this year?

We are incredibly grateful to share that while we do not have a live marketplace this year, there are 11 vendors from all backgrounds and styles that have partnered with us for a Virtual Marketplace. Shoppers can purchase jewelry, clothing, athletic wear, handbags and so much more by using code ASPVIRTUAL2020 at their online checkout at any vendor found on our website: https://asafeplaceforhelp.org/get-involved/wine-women-shoes/wine-women-shoes-virtual-marketplace-2020/ and 20% of  all purchases through July 10 will be donated back to A Safe Place. Plus, a number of vendors have provided discounts in conjunction with this code, so you save and donate too!

Best in Shoe is one competition during Wine, Women & Shoes Benefiting A Safe Place
Will you be Best in Shoe?

Can you tell us about Best in Shoe?

At our live event, we all enjoyed guests strutting the catwalk to compete for the title of "Best in Shoe." The audience would vote for their favorite in each category and the winners would be awarded handsomely for their style prowess. This year, we are taking the runway online where anyone can share a photo of their hottest heel, wedge, flat or boot to compete for a chance to win. Registrants can submit one photo per category to be voted on by our fashion-forward event team. PLUS, our newest category, The Shoefluencer, will allow the chance for a vote by online peers - a photo for any category can be shared on any social media outlet using #ASPBestInShoe2020 to participate. The most likes, shares and comments will win! All winners will be announced the night of our virtual broadcast.

Wine, Women & Shoes Benefiting A Safe Place Goes Virtual July 10, 2020 to Help the Organization Provide Services for Survivors of Domestic Violence and Sex Trafficking:

Are there any other additional unique aspects of this year's Wine, Women & Shoes that you would like to share with the public?

The Virtual Broadcast is unique in itself. It's a very new concept to our organization and we've all worked very hard to provide the best programming to our supporters that we can, while playing it safe for the sake of our community. We encourage everyone to join us and help spread the word so you can experience this unique event with us. And of course, if anyone would like to get involved prior to event night, or learn more about A Safe Place in general, please do not hesitate to contact our Development Team at 847-731-7165.

We hope you can help or share info about this worthy event. Thank you to A Safe Place for sharing a little more info with us.
