Savoring Foodie Flavors in Janesville, Wisconsin

** Disclosure: Thank you to the Janesville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau for hosting us and accommodating our visit. All opinions are 100% my own.

Our recent getaway to Janesville, Wisconsin afforded us an opportunity to explore foodie experiences that the city has to offer. On every visit to Janesville, we have been welcomed by a number of wonderful meal options. Having options is key especially when traveling with friends and family members that have a range of tastes. Discovering a number of foodies spots with a range of flavors, we really enjoyed what Janesville has to offer. Follow me on a little tasting adventure in Janesville and learn about a few amazing foodie spots:

Starting Our Weekend With Healthy So Chopped Salads:

I love to add balance to vacation indulgences with healthy options while on the road. So Chopped at the Bodacious Shops of Block 42 is one of my favorite spots for a healthy yet filling meal. Although the cafe offers creative salad options, you can craft your own from a plethora of wholesome ingredients. You are guaranteed to be amazed by the number available! So Chopped also offers wraps, sandwiches and homemade soups. We grabbed our own personalized, mixed-before-us salads to go and enjoyed our vibrant lunches with a view along the Rock River! Special kudos to So Chopped for having plant based food containers for take out!

Elegant Dinner In With Wissota Chophouse:

Located inside of our hotel, Cobblestone Inn & Suites, a venture to Wissota Chophouse presented as a logical choice. We quickly learned that Wissota Chophouse is a restaurant worthy of venturing off of your normal path for. Outdoor seating offers a spectacular view of the Rock River as well as a safe, socially distanced option. We opted to order our food for take out so we could relax in our room while enjoying a meal together.

The depth and range of the steakhouse's menu impressed. Wissota's menu features a magnificent amount of shareables providing a fun avenue for meals. Fried Olives, Buffalo Fried Alligator, Chophouse Nueske's Bacon Bleu Cheese Fries and so many more options tempt.

Being a huge seafood fan, I immediately settled on the Pan Seared Sea Scallops featuring orange basil butter. Enjoying a getaway with my hubby, I felt like having something a little fancy for dinner while taking out and staying safe during these unusual times. An admitted potato girl, I also ordered Garlic Chive Whipped Potato. Delicious! Delicious! Delicious! I was so impressed by the quality of Wissota as take out. The scallops were melt-in-your-mouth addictive. The Garlic Chive Whipped Potato displayed a wonderful bite of garlic and chive within creamy potatoes -- addictive!

Steaks and chops including reserve cuts feature prominently on the Wissota Chophouse menu. My hubby is quite the steak fan, so we knew we would enjoy a steak selection. He opted for the Mixed Grill featuring a 6 oz, Manhattan streak, lamb chop and Nueske's bacon slab. We especially loved the addition of locally smoked Nueske's bacon from Wittenberg, Wisconsin. Once again, Wissota's quality impressed us especially as a take out option. Intriguing enhancements may also be added to steaks including peppercorn crust, caramelized onions, Hollandaise and more! On the side, my husband chose Parmesan Crusted Brussels Sprouts. As total fans of Brussels sprouts, we quite enjoyed the sharpness the parmesan added to the slight mustard flavor of the Brussels sprouts. Delish!

Of course, we did need to indulge on dessert. Being my weakness, I had to try something chocolately. Hello, Towering Chocolate Cake! Our treat was so decadent but delicious -- rich chocolate with caramel drizzle, strawberries and whipped cream. What a cap to the day!

Sweet Start to the Morning at Mocha Moment:

On my adventures, I love investigating coffee shops for locally roasted coffee and baked treats. Our Janesville getaway brought us to charming Mocha Moment, a coffee shop set along the woods with a tranquil garden atmosphere. Mocha Moments roasts their own coffee, so what a perfect opportunity for a truly fresh cup of joe! Plus, they bake their own goodies so we enjoyed some hearty muffins to begin our day. My husband opted for a cup of coffee and I chose a hot green tea. We ordered a blueberry muffin and a cranberry muffin and ported our treats to eat on the go. What a yummy start to the day!

drafthouse: A Special Gastropub Brunch

Slow and tranquil Sundays are for brunch! New to downtown Janesville, drafthouse adds a sleek and modern spot for visitors to relish playful flavor combinations as well as a selection of beer and spirits. Presenting a truly Wisconsin adventure, drafthouse serves up 24 beers from Wisconsin breweries. We would love to sit and relax a bit on a future visit.

We began our meal with Not Your Neighbors Cheese Curd which immediately appealed! We nibbled on our beer battered white cheddar cheese curds dipping them into vodka marinara sauce. The cheese curds had just the right amount of saltiness to them and paired oh so well with the marinara sauce! Perfect comfort food!

For my meal, I went for the Avocado Toast with creamy kale pesto, fresh avocado, scrambled eggs, microgreens and mini heirloom tomatoes. Accompanied with a nice side of rosemary potatoes, my Avocado Toast provided a deliciously colorful meal with invigorating flavors before heading out on a hike. I certainly spoiled myself with the rosemary potatoes! My husband enjoyed the Chicken and Waffles featuring hand battered chicken, Belgian pearl waffles and a bourbon honey. I didn't think it was possible, but the bourbon honey really made the chicken and waffles sweetly melt in your mouth.

Loose Leaf Tea at Bodacious Brew:

Capping off our visit to Janesville, I enjoyed a piping hot cup of loose leaf green tea. The second day of our trip alternated between sunny and rainy. So a warm cuppa delighted the soul! Part of the Bodacious Shops of Block 42 including So Chopped and Bodacious Olive, Bodacious Brew offers a spot for breakfast with a cup of joe or tea. Or, visit in the evening for a beverage and an appetizer.

We sure delighted in foodie adventures in Janesville! Wissota Chophouse and drafthouse offer up two newer dining options in the downtown area adding new and adventurous flavor options. Mocha Moment is a much loved coffeehouse with a great selection of baked goods. Both Bodacious Brew and So Chopped have been favorites of ours since our first visit to Janesville. Janesville certainly offers quite a selection of food experiences for all! So many great choices for meals while exploring the city!
