22 Family Fun Events in the Chicago Suburbs June 4-6, 2021

Summer weekends are here and there is plenty of fun to be had! Here are my picks for this upcoming weekend:

Ongoing:

Dunn Museum in Libertyville is back open, please reserve timed ticket, learn about the history and natural history of Lake County, enjoy special exhibits as well, admission fee

Ongoing Naper Settlement is back open to the public Tuesdays - Saturdays 10AM-4PM,, Sundays 1PM-4PM, adults $10 pp, seniors 62+  $8, kids ages 4-12 $7, Naperville residents (with proof of residency), children under 4 and Naper Settlement Members are free, must register ahead. Also, visit the new Answering the Call: Naperville at  War exhibit focusing on WWII.

Through June 6 Simply Spring Butterfly Exhibit, Nicholas Conservatory, Rockford, enjoy viewing live butterflies flying in the conservatory and learn about their life cycle, $9 per adult, $7per child or senior, must pre-register

May 8 - October 10 Model Railroad Garden open at Chicago Botanic Garden, Adults: $8, Seniors: $7, Children (3 – 12): $6 Children (2 and under): Free Members receive $1 off each price Garden Plus members get in free on Wednesdays, tickets are at ticket booth in front of exhibit and have timed entry, must also reserve time to visit gardens and purchase parking online, parking: $25 per weekday, $30 on weekends

May 22 - September 18 Butterfly House at Peck Farm in Geneva is open Monday - Saturday 9AM-5PM, Sunday 12PM-5PM, suggested donation $2 pp or $6 per family, masks and social distancing required.

May 14 - August 29 To the Moon Snoopy Soars with NASA, Elmhurst History Museum, learn how Snoopy was part of NASA's Manned Flight Awareness safety program, learn about the Apollo program and more, free, timed entry required

May 31 - September 6 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Gardens, 10AM-5PM, $25 parking during the week, $30 on weekends, tickets adults $8, seniors $7, children (3-12) $6, children 2 and under free, members $1 off, garden plus members free on Wednesdays, 10 visit pas $50 per members, $60 non members, must reserve timed-entry to garden, tickets for exhibit are at booth

Ongoing Human + Nature at Morton Arboretum, Lisle, stunning natural sculptures to help connect people with trees, the exhibition includes 5 incredible sculptures, included with normal admission

Friday, June 4

June 4 - 6 Harvard Milk Days, oldest continuously running festival in Illinois, see farm equipment, milk drinking contest, shows, vendors, carnival, see website for more info

Saturday, June 5

June 5-6 Make Glass Planets for Father's Day, Patterson Glass, Mundelein, $65, please call to make an appointment, hours for this event are 10AM-4PM

June 5-6 Lincolnshire Art Festival, Lincolnshire, Village Green, 10AM-5PM, reserve a time slot

June 5 Everything Butterflies, Nature Center, Crystal Lake, 10AM-2PM, free activities to commemorate the reopening of the butterfly house!

June 5 Tyner Center at Air Station Prairie Open, Glenview, 10AM-3PM, see the rooftop garden, walk the prairie, learn about the award winning green building, free

June 5 What's Buzzin' in the Apiary, Little Red School House, Willow Springs, 10AM, learn about beekeeping and visit the apiary, free but must register, for ages 10 and up

June 5 Stone Hunt, Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, Oak Brook, 10:30AM or 1:30PM, $5 pp, hands-on event allows for children and adults to hunt for rocks and minerals, specimen can be brought home, space is limited so must register

 June 5 & 6 The Progressive Farm: A Barnyard Tour, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 1:30PM, 2:30PM, 3:30PM, learn about farming towards the end of the 19th century, costumed interpreter, free but tours are limited to 10 people, those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, masks and social distancing required 

June 5 Community Apiary Open House, Hanover Park, 1PM-4PM, beekeepers will be on hand to answer questions, free

Sunday, June 6

June 6 9th Annual Lambs Farm Champion Car Show, Lambs Farm, Libertyville, 10AM-3PM, $20 pp

June 6 Living History Encounter, Isle A La Cache, Romeoville, 12PM-3PM, learn how people in the past would light their homes, free, drop in

June 6 Wetland Wander, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, 1.5 mile wetland hike to learn about the preserve's wetlands, free but must register

June 6 Kite Fly, Naperville, Frontier Sports Complex 1PM-4PM, fly your kite, see large kites flown in demo, free

June 6 Serpent Safari, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30pm, all about snakes, must register, free
