The weekend is here, so it is time to think of fun! Here are my funtastic picks for the weekend. Please check with COVID restrictions as we are in a state of flux.

Ongoing

May 8 - October 10 Model Railroad Garden open at Chicago Botanic Garden, Adults: $8, Seniors: $7, Children (3 – 12): $6 Children (2 and under): Free Members receive $1 off each price Garden Plus members get in free on Wednesdays, tickets are at ticket booth in front of exhibit and have timed entry, must also reserve time to visit gardens and purchase parking online, parking: $25 per weekday, $30 on weekends

May 31 - September 6 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Gardens, 10AM-5PM, $25 parking during the week, $30 on weekends, tickets adults $8, seniors $7, children (3-12) $6, children 2 and under free, members $1 off, garden plus members free on Wednesdays, 10 visit pas $50 per members, $60 non members, must reserve timed-entry to garden, tickets for exhibit are at booth

May 22 - September 18 Butterfly House at Peck Farm in Geneva is open Monday - Saturday 9AM-5PM, Sunday 12PM-5PM, suggested donation $2 pp or $6 per family, masks and social distancing required.

May 14 - August 29 To the Moon Snoopy Soars with NASA, Elmhurst History Museum, learn how Snoopy was part of NASA's Manned Flight Awareness safety program, learn about the Apollo program and more, free

Ongoing Naper Settlement is open to the public Tuesdays - Saturdays 10AM-4PM,, Sundays 1PM-4PM, adults $12 pp, seniors 62+  $10, kids ages 4-12 $8, Naperville residents (with proof of residency), children under 4 and Naper Settlement Members are free. Also, visit the new Answering the Call: Naperville at  War exhibit focusing on WWII.

Ongoing Human + Nature at Morton Arboretum, Lisle, stunning natural sculptures to help connect people with trees, the exhibition includes 5 incredible sculptures, included with normal admission

Ongoing through Labor Day Local Art Pop Up at Izaak Walton Park in Prospect Heights

Ongoing Von Bergen's Sunflower Mazes, Hebron, ongoing as long as there are blooms, ticket reservation recommended, $12 per adult, $10 per child on weekends, $8 and $6 week days, $1 processing fee per ticket

Ongoing - September 16 Par Excellence Redux at the Elmhurst Art Museum. This fun new interactive exhibit features 9 mini golf holes designed by both local artists and artists throughout the country. The exciting new exhibit honors the original Par Excellence exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1988. You must reserve a tee time. $10 per adult, $8 per senior, $5 for children and free for kiddies under 5.

Saturday, August 7

August 7 - 8 The World of Faeries, Vasa Park, Elgin, 10AM-6PM Sat, 10AM-5PM Sun, a weekend of fairies, entertainment, live music and an artisan village, $15 admission, $8 for seniors 65+, children 12 and under free, cash only

August 7 - 8 Vintage Days, Long Grove, 10AM-6PM Sat, 10AM-5PM Sun, penny carnival, live music, mini golf and more

August 7 Naperville Food Truck Festival, Naper Settlement, 1PM-7PM, general admission $5 for early purchase online, $10 day of, early eater 11AM-1PM $10 online early, $15 day off, kids 10 and under enjoy free admission with paying adult, 30+ food trucks and family fun

August 7 - 8 Walking Plays: Johnny Appleseed Folk Society, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 6PM, $25 adults, $15 kids, reduced rates for members

Sunday, August 8

August 8 Revive Handmade Markets Summer Series, Baird & Warner, Arlington Heights, 10AM-3PM, over 40 makers, kids activities

August 8 Marvelous Monarchs, St. James Farm, Warrenville, 10:30AM-11:30AM, learn about  monarchs, take a 20 minute stroll to spot some, ages 12 and up, $5 pp, must register

August 8 The Unburied Treasure Hunt, River Trail Nature Center, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 11AM-2PM, pick up a treasure map at the tent and use clues to find the un-buried treasure, free

August 8 The Giants of Giant's Hollow, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, learn about the towering oaks on the nature trail during a short hike, free but must register, unvaccinated visitors must wear a mask

August 8 Cantigny Summer Concert: MAC 180, Wheaton, 3PM-5PM, $10 parking
