Another spring weekend is ahead! Here are my picks for family fun in the Chicago suburbs this weekend:

February 5 - May 29 Houses of Tomorrow: Solar Homes from Keck to Today, Elmhurst Art Museum, Keck's Glass House of Tomorrow designed for the 1933 World's Fair was the first in the USA and groundbreaking in terms of solar energy, learn about his designs and others taking into account sustainable practices, advanced ticket purchase required, $15 per adult, $12 per senior, kids are free 

March 12 - May 29 Secret Life of Butterflies at Nicholas Conservatory in Rockford, experience butterflies flying around the conservatory, watch them emerge from cocoons, see website for ticketing info

Fermilab Natural Areas in Batavia are back open! The natural areas -- which are home to a herd of bison -- have reopened to the public. See website for details on admittance.

April 29 - May 15 Lilac Time, Lilacia Park, Lombard, lilac heritage walks, arts and crafts fair, village cottage tours, parade and more, see website for more details

May 8 - ongoing depending on blooms Tulip Festival at Richardson Farm, Spring Grove, about 2-3 weeks of bloom time, opening day May 8, fields of tulips, games, food trucks and more, see website for tickets

Ongoing Flourish: The Garden at 50, Chicago Botanic Garden celebrates 50 years, look for special art installations and yellow plants threaded throughout the garden, check for special pop-up events

Ongoing Kuipers Family Farm Tulip Fest, Maple Park, admission varies, check website for tickets

May 14 Native Plant Sale, Mayslake, Oakbrook, 9AM-2PM

May 14 World Migratory Bird Day, Four Rivers Educational Center, Channahon, 9AM-1PM, bird hikes, raptor demos and more, free

May 14 World Migratory Bird Day, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 10AM-2:30PM, 10AM-12PM Birding Basic (ages 8 and up), 1PM-2:30PM meet a bird of prey, free

May 14-15 Spring Planting on the Farm, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-4PM, see how families prepared to plant for the season in the late 1800's, maybe you will even plant some seeds, house tours start each hour, suggested donation $5

May 14 Umbrella Arts Festival 2022, Evanston's Fountain Square, 1PM-6PM, celebrating Asian, South Asian, Pacific Islander American Month, performances, activities and more, free admission

May 15 History of the Schoolhouse Walk, Little Red Schoolhouse, Willow Springs, 10AM, learn about the schoolhouse on a walk to it, 2 miles, free but must register

May 15 Elmhurst Museum Day, 1PM-5PM, admission to Elmhurst History Museum and Elmhurst Art Museum will be free, SOARRIING will be presenting Native American storytelling, drumming and more, Isle a la Cache Museum will have a fur trader station, and more

May 15 Ukrainian Cultural Celebration, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 1PM-3PM, live music, dancing, cultural displays, free but must register

May 15 Oh Freedom! Songs of the Civil Rights Movement, Naper Settlement, Naperville, 4PM-5PM, folklorist and singer Chris Vallillo will perform songs from the era, free with ticket, please register

May 15 Norwegian Constitution Day Parade, Park Ridge, 1PM, festivities at Hodges Park 12PM-4PM, vendors, music, dancing
