Another summer weekend is here and it is a perfect one to soak up! Here are my picks for family fun in the Chicago suburbs this weekend:

Ongoing Flourish: The Garden at 50, Chicago Botanic Garden celebrates 50 years, look for special art installations and yellow plants threaded throughout the garden, check for special pop-up events

Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic, admission includes this fun seasonal event

May 21 - September 17 Butterfly House, Geneva, open 9AM-5PM Mon-Sat, 12PM-4PM Sun, recommended donation $2 pp and $6 per family

June 1 - October 31 Alebrijes: Creatures of a Dream World, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, Alebrijes are Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures, learn about the artists, go on a scavenger hunt for all 48 pieces and more, parking is $10 per car

June 18 - August 14 Nature's Blueprints, Elmhurst Art Museum, an engaging exhibit highlighting nature's resourceful design, includes sensory stations, highlights how architecture uses elements learned from nature, see website for ticketing information

Through November 6 Delicate Forces, Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens, Rockford, 7 large scale are displays created with dichroic materials crafting kaleidoscope, admission fees apply 

Ongoing depending on blooms Sunflower Festival, Von Bergen's Country Market, Hebron, check out the sunflower maze, purchase tickets online

Ongoing through Labor Day, Bristol Renaissance Faire, Saturdays, Sundays and Labor Day

August 12-13 Bartlett Summer Fest, food, activities, craft show and  more

August 12-14 Americana Roots Fest, The Venue, Aurora, three day outdoor music festival, admission depends on day, see website for tickets'

August 12-14 Farm Power Tours, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-4PM, learn how  technology and innovation helped with household chores, suggested donation $5 per person, no registration

Saturday, August 13

August 13 Family Scavenger Hunt, Kishwaukee Headwaters, Woodstock, 10AM,  must register

August 13 Arlington Heights Historical Museum Tour, 10:30AM or 2:30PM, one hour tour of the five buildings on the campus, $3 children, $5 adults

August 13 Naperville Food Truck Festival,  Naper Settlement, 1PM-7PM, 25+ food trucks, beer garden, live entertainment, bubble artist, vendors and more, $15pp, please reserve tix online

August 13 Annual Dog Day, Elgin Public Museum, Elgin, 12PM-4PM, from 12PM-1PM meet service and comfort dogs, from 1PM-4PM meet dogs from Anderson Humane Society, no other dogs will be admitted inside, standard admission applies
