A Little Time and a Keyboard: Adorable Valentine's Day Heart Craft {Using Leftover Puzzle Pieces}

Adorable Valentine's Day Heart Craft {Using Leftover Puzzle Pieces}

Friday, January 10, 2014

 Overall, my daughter is pretty good about keeping her puzzle pieces together. Yet, we have still seemed to lose a smattering of pieces over the years. The chances of us are finding them are slim to none. So, the random leftover puzzle pieces often find a way into our crafts! During one of our extra days off of school this week, my daughter and I worked on a Valentine's Day craft using puzzle pieces, scrap ribbons and scrap cellophane. Reusing and repurposing fun!

Materials:

Puzzle with missing pieces
Ribbon remnants
Cellophane from Valentine heart
School glue
Q tips
Board to work on
Placemat for a little protection
hot glue gun
Scissors

 Assembly:

First, we arranged our puzzle pieces into a heart shape. We did layer pieces in certain areas to add some extra support. Then, we glued the pieces together and let the project dry. {You may need to pinch some pieces together to get them to stick well enough.} Once the heart was dry, we added more pieces and glue as needed.

Next, we cut a piece of cellophane to fit behind the heart. We glued it to the back and let the project dry once again. After it dried, we trimmed off excess cellophane.

Since our project was going to consist of two hearts, we assembled the second one next. You can do them both at the same time if you would like. Once both hearts were ready, I warmed up the glue gun. I glued a piece of ribbon on to attach the hearts together and a loop to the top.

Once the project was done, we hung it up. Very cute and using mainly scrap materials we had in the house!

  1. I like them, they really are cute. And I bet the kids here would love to make them. Thank you for linking to Super Sunday Sync.
