Happy Fall! There is plenty of fall to celebrate this weekend with these picks for local fun! Here are my favorite Chicago suburban family events this weekend:

Ongoing Flourish: The Garden at 50, Chicago Botanic Garden celebrates 50 years, look for special art installations and yellow plants threaded throughout the garden, check for special pop-up events

Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic, admission includes this fun seasonal event

June 1 - October 31 Alebrijes: Creatures of a Dream World, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, Alebrijes are Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures, learn about the artists, go on a scavenger hunt for all 48 pieces and more, parking is $10 per car

Through November 6 Delicate Forces, Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens, Rockford, 7 large scale art displays created with dichroic materials crafting kaleidoscope, admission fees apply 

Ongoing depending on blooms Sunflower Festival, Von Bergen's Country Market, Hebron, check out the sunflower maze, purchase tickets online -- check online for availability on flower status

September 10-October 30 Richardson World's Largest Corn Maze, Spring Grove, currently also has sunflower fields

Apple Orchards

Ongoing through October  Royal Oak Farm, Harvard, apple picking, apple tree maze, activities,  country kitchen

September 24 Johnny Appleseed Festival, Crystal Lake, 9AM-4PM, meet Johnny Appleseed, live music, local vendors, petting zoo, rides, games and more

September 24-25 Art in the Barn Barrington, 10AM-5PM, support local artists at this juried show with pieces for purchase, local musicians and dancers, $5 pp

September 24 Party for the Preserves, Bunker Hill, Niles, 11AM-3PM, family friendly nature activities, guided walks, local food trucks and more

September 24 Glenview Blocktoberfest, 1:30PM-11PM, great line up of live musical acts, local food and beverages

September 24 Community Powwow, Busse Lake Boating Center, 12PM-4PM, Native American dance and food, listen to story of local Native American culture, participants are encouraged to wear orange, free

September 24-25 Tractor Drawn Wagons, Danada Equestrian Center, Wheaton, 1PM, 1:45PM, 2:30PM, $5 pp, under 13-years-old with adult

September 24 Alebrijes Art Walk, Cantigny, Wheaton, 2PM, a chance to learn about the amazing art pieces on a guided walk, $10 parking

September 24 Meet the Bison at Lords Park Zoo, Elgin, 2PM, $5 per adult, $3 per child ages 3-12, not recommended for younger, must reserve spot, call  (847) 741-6655 between 8 am and 2 pm!

September 25 Green Fair, Rylko Park, Buffalo Grove, 8:00AM -12:30PM, learn how to make your home more ecofriendly, recycling opportunities for items that may be more difficult to recycle, exhibits, activities, free

September 25 Magic Meadows Alpaca Day Open House, Wonder Lake, 11AM-2PM, learn about alpacas, take home a memento, shop from products made with alpaca wool

September 25 Celebrate Naperville, Naper Settlement, 1PM-4PM, learn about farming and Naperville, hear story about the multicultural fabric of Naperville, tour Pine Mansion, see historical demos and more, included in regular admission

September 25 Birds of Prey, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, meet a raptor and learn about what makes them special, free

September 25 Adios, Amigos! Final Butterfly Release Party, Spring Valley Nature Center, Schaumburg, 2PM-4PM, learn about the monarch and create a craft, release at 3PM, free
