15 Favorite Chicago Suburban Preserves for Fall Hikes

Ongoing

June 1 - October 31 Alebrijes: Creatures of a Dream World, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, Alebrijes are Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures, learn about the artists, go on a scavenger hunt for all 48 pieces and more, parking is $10 per car

Through November 6 Delicate Forces, Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens, Rockford, 7 large scale art displays created with dichroic materials crafting kaleidoscope, admission fees apply 

September 10-October 30 Richardson World's Largest Corn Maze, Spring Grove, currently also has sunflower fields

October 1-31 Pumpkin Festival, Cosley Zoo, Wheaton, come visit the animals and see the zoo all decorated for fall, thousands of pumpkins will be scattered on the zoo lawn, pumpkins, apples, corn stalks and more will be for purchase, regular admission fees apply, please reserve timed entry

Through October 31 Carol Stream Halloween Decorating Contest

Through October 31 Elk Grove Village Halloween Decorating Contest

October 15 - November 6 Sugar Skull City, Aurora, downtown storefronts will be decorated by local artists, scavenger hunt

October 14-16 Glass Pumpkin Patch and Sale, Morton Arboretum, glass demos as well, part of regular admission, timed entry required so reserve online

October 14-15 All Hallow's Eve, Naper Settlement, Naperville, 6:30PM-10PM, werewolves, witches and monsters have escaped and are wandering the settlement, outdoor activities, designed for families with kids 16 and under, $20 pp, purchase tix online

October 15-16 Open House Chicago, two-day event that provides amazing free behind-the-scenes access to over 150 significant structures in Chicago, Evanston and Oak Park

October 15 Lumber Jack 'N Jill Fest, Bartlett Community Center, Bartlett, 12PM-4:30PM, folklore of Paul Bunyan, Babe the Blue Ox and more, axe throwing, cornhole, caber toss, and more

October 15 Ghost Story Train, Fox River Trolley Museum, South Elgin, ride a spooky train to a haunted forest, listen to ghost stories around a fire, $16.50, purchase tickets online

Sunday, October 16
