A Little Time and a Keyboard: Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Kohl Children's Museum

Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Kohl Children's Museum

Thursday, January 24, 2013

We recently visited the Kohl Children's Museum in Glenview, Illinois. The Museum is such an awesome resource for those with young children. Any child's imagination and creativity will be sparked by the Museum's range of hands-on learning experiences. Plus, the Museum is not too large and can be easily navigated with the little ones. The entire set up is very inviting for little ones. A large portion looks like a little village with a grocery store, veterinarian's office, Potbelly's, library, and nursery.

The grocery store has always been one of our favorites for exploration and you can see why:

Little chefs out there can also make some sandwiches at Potbelly's:

The Kohl Children's Museum also has a water room and a music room among other exhibits. As I am sure you are aware, kids are definitely drawn to the water room. I recommend bringing a change of clothes just in case! The music room is also quite engaging as children will be able to bang drums and learn different properties of music through their own experience.

Besides these permanent exhibits, the Kohl Children's Museum also has visiting exhibits throughout the year. These exhibits give something new to explore for frequent visitors as well as add fun for new guests! Right now, the museum is featuring The Wonderful Wizard of Oz exhibit. Since this exhibit is new to us, we were pretty excited to see it. I think that the exhibit really did an excellent job of capturing the Wizard of Oz and creating a magical and engaging place for kids to play and explore. Take a look:

Doesn't The Wonderful Wizard of Oz exhibit look beautiful? We had a fun time exploring. When we were done, my daughter clicked her heals to go home!

The Kohl Children's Museum was one of my crutches when my daughter was younger. It provided us with many enjoyable hours. I really cannot think of a place in our area that is better for children 8-years-old and under. Some more pluses at the museum:
  • You can hang your jackets and use lockers to lighten your load.
  • The littlest visitors have soft play areas.
  • There are nursing stations.
  • Restrooms are easily accessible.
  • Strollers are permitted. (However, when not is use you are asked to leave them up front.)
  • You can get lunch at Cosi. The Glen is also a short drive away.
  • There is an outdoor portion for the warmer months.
  • There is a store with neat gifts.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz exhibit will be in residence at the museum through April 15, 2013. With the cold weather ahead, it may be worth a trip to the Kohl Children's Museum! Your kids will have a great time getting out of the house and engaging in some fun activities while learning.

  1. We went last weekend for the first time with my son and had a great time! Of all the fun things, he loved the broom at Potbelly the best!
