Snacks kids can make for mom for Mother's Day

Saturday, May 4, 2013

Kids love to pamper their mothers on Mother's Day. This pampering is well deserved! However, sometimes our kids have pretty grand schemes about what they can make for Mother's Day. Whenever my daughter mentions making me breakfast in bed, all I can think about is the inevitable mess of dishes and an interestingly flavored meal. So, I have come up with some easy snacks that she can make with her dad without the kitchen combusting or the two of them ending up in a screaming match--neither of which is fun on Mother's Day.
  • Chocolate covered strawberries: This is a classic form of pampering on Mother's Day. However, it is easily executed. Here is a simple recipe on About.com.
  • Yogurt parfait: Kids will love layering fruit, yogurt and maybe some nuts or granola in adorable sundae glasses. Fun and colorful!
  • Apples and peanut butter: Dad can help with cutting up some apples. Add a  dollop of peanut butter and, voila, and easy snack! Kids can even arrange the slices to make a design.

Simple Tissue Paper Flowers {Reuse that Tissue Paper}

Thursday, February 21, 2013

Ok, so you all know that I can be pretty thrifty and I don't like to throw things away. Well, I have mounds--and I mean mounds--of tissue paper from random gifts and purchases. I do reuse this tissue paper in other gifts as well as for packing. However, my supply has very much outstretched the demand. With my daughter home on Monday for the holiday, we decided to craft some tissue paper flowers.

The project was very easy to do. I actually used tissue paper that was already a bit crinkly--you know the stuff that would look a little too much "used" in another gift bag. We cut ten rectangles out of the desired tissue paper. (Each rectangle is the same size.)

Mother's Day Picture Frame Craft

Monday, May 7, 2012

Without fail, my daughter gets some type of bead craft for every gift giving occasion. So, we have accumulated quite a stash of beads and definitely will have enough to survive a zombie apocalypse. With Mother's Day around the corner, I decided to whip out some of our craft supplies so that my daughter could make something for her grandmas. Out came the beads!

We decided to make picture frames for the grandmas. I happened to have a couple of wood picture frames from Michael's. My daughter glued all sorts of stray beads and buttons to them, making her own unique design. She initially used Elmer's glue. However, I did have to reglue some that just would not stay with the hot glue gun.

The craft was super easy and my daughter had a great time using her creative mojo. Some more added bonuses--we used some of our extra craft supplies and made cute gifts in the process!
