Glass Viking Ships at Hotel Murano in Tacoma
Magnificent Glass Viking Ships
When we arrived at Hotel Murano at 12:30AM due to flight delays and construction headaches, we expected to snooze through the check in process and scramble our way up to bed. Upon arrival, though, we quickly realized that Hotel Murano is much more than a place to catch some zzzzz's. Named for Murano, Italy the famed Old World capital of glass art and existing in Tacoma the glass capital of the Pacific Northwest, it is no wonder that Hotel Murano has emerged as a splendid homage to glasswork!

Opened in 2002, the museum not only houses an inspirational collection of glass art but the largest Hot Shop in the Pacific Northwest. The structure's stunning cone cuts a striking presence into the Tacoma skyline and pays homage to the wood-burning sawmills once populating the region.

The museum presents history in galleries that flow together bringing the history of the automobile to you through the vehicles themselves.

Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium on the Puget Sound

Our Tacoma adventure began at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. The only combined zoo and aquarium in the Pacific Northwest attracts 700,000 visitors annually, so definitely a popular attraction. Set along Puget Sound and surrounded by views of the Olympia Mountains, the waterfront and (if you are lucky) Mt. Rainier, the zoo's surroundings are particularly inviting and were certainly spectacular on a sunny day!
