The Field Museum in Chicago, Illinois

The Field Museum has various free days for Illinois residents throughout the year. Entry was free the entire month of February for Illinois residents, so we took advantage. Additional free days for 2017 will be introduced -- so stay tuned! The entry gives you general admission but not admission to special exhibits. However, the general admission provides entry to many, many exhibits and certainly provides the family with a fantastic day of learning and exploration.

Norge Ski Jump in Fox River Grove, IL

Last weekend, we enjoyed a glorious sunny Sunday afternoon experiencing the Norge Ski Jump in Fox River Grove, Illinois. This year was our first pilgrimage but after all of the fun we had, I can say that we will definitely be back for more. This year's event was particular novel because snow had to be  made for the jump since Chicago has been nearly devoid of snow this year. I discovered a diner in Bristol, WI that appeared to be fun and have a large menu. So, we popped in to Bristol 45 Diner on our way home. After all, they do craft shakes. Who can resist?

Icy river and snow at the Chicago Botanic Garden in January

Winter should certainly not stop you from visiting the Chicago Botanic Garden! The greenhouses definitely have plenty of blooms to warm you up. However, it is also fun to see some of the winter changes outdoors. On our trip this past January, we walked a different route than we typically do during the winter and encountered the Plant Science Center. Believe it or not, this was the first time we ever ventured in. We ended up enjoying an interesting science excursion!
